The CEO/EVC of NCC , Engr. Ernest Ndukwe will be conferred with the honorary degree of Doctor of Science in Communications (D.Sc.) (honoris causa) of the Obafemi Awolowo University at the 37th Convocation Ceremonies of the university scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2009.

The university said that the conferment of the degree is in recognition of his “contribution to the telecommunications industry and to the socio-economic development of Nigeria”.

The Vice Chancellor of the OAU, Professor Michael Faborode had few weeks ago hinted that the university’s Senate has recommended the Engr. Ndukwe be conferred with the degree.

He said that the conferment of the degree on the electrical and electronics engineer alumnus of the university who has made his mark in the nation’s development will be one of the highlights of the convocation ceremonies.

“You know that OAU doctorate is one of the most prestigious. You do not buy it or lobby for it. The Senate of the University has considered Engr. Ndukwe worthy of this degree and this will be one of the major highlights of the convocation ceremony”, he said

The conferment of the degree on Engr. Ndukwe by the OAU will be the third from three front line universities in Nigeria, having earlier received similar degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Federal Universioty of Technology, FUTO Owerri.
