Already the atmosphere is charged as expectations run high in respect of tomorrow’s awards nights.

According to the CEO of NOPA, Mr. Stanley Okoronkwo, Vanguard Newspaper is to be honoured for “its incisive coverage and reportage of Nollywood.” Movie critics, Shuaibu Husseni and Oji Onoko will equally receive the Diamond Pen Awards at the occasion, which will parade Nollywood stars.

For the Best of Nollywood Awards, the anchorman of Vanguard  Home Video People, is nominated in the category of Journalist of the Year Award. He’s nominated alongside other movie reporters including, Victor Akande of The Nation, Sam Olatunji of The Sun, David Ajiboye-Tribune and TadeAsifat from Encomium magazine.

Early in the week, Mr. Oloketuyi named Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt and pretty actress, Dakore Egbuson  as comperes for the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards. Their choice, as he explained, was  based on the need to “use tested and trusted entertainers as they fit perfectly with the status of the awards.”

Tagged ‘Desire nothing more’, the Best of Nollywood  awards is a celebration of the achievement of those who have distinguished themselves in the movie industry in 2008. Twenty five awards will be given at the event- 19  in different categories and 6 special recognition awards to be given out to six people who act as role models to aspiring film makers.

Also, addressing the press last Monday, ahead of the NOPA award ceremony, Mr. Okoronkwo, disclosed that  the awardees are selected based on merit and not that of favouritism, adding that “the awards are for those that deserve to be honoured. NOPA does not know ethnicity, religion or creed. I am sure that our list will speak for itself.”

NOPA, according to Mr. Okoronkwo,  “is instituted to celebrate excellence and honour high achievers, institutions and corporate bodies that have contributed to the existence, growth and acceptance of Nollywood as a universal brand.
