2011: Mega Party ‘ll change political landscape — Jakande

As the 2011 elections approach, the Mega Summit Movement, MSM, proponent of Mega Party has been advised to make provision of basic education, tackling unemployment and the promotion of trade and commerce its cardinal objectives.

Alhaji Lateef Jakande, former Governor of Lagos State, said  at the Mega Summit Movement, South-West Conference on Monday in Lagos.

According to him, the party should promote the ideals of education for all; irrespective of ethnicity and the tackling of unemployment is very paramount because a lot of problems is presently bedevilling the country today, adding, “one major problem confronting the Nigerian nation is poverty. It pervades the entire society. Seven out of every ten
Nigerians are poor. This is not good enough for the country. Any government that is serious should address the menace of poverty through education, employment and promoting trade and commerce.

He advised the Mega Party to accommodate all shades of opinion.

His words: “The Mega Party should work hard to take over governance in 2011. It should endeavour to work for a better Nigerian. Although, power belongs to the Almighty God and He gives it to whoever He wants.

While speaking earlier, the chairman, Mega Summit Movement, South West, Chief Rasheed Adewale Shitta-Bey said the MSM would form a broad-based progressive political party for the aspiration of our people in bequeathing social justice and equity for present and future generations.

His words, “we cannot fold our hands to allow the destruction of the legacies of our nationalists like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello among others to go down the drain”.
