Three students killed in inter-varsity shoot-out

By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—IN WHAT appears to be an inter-University campus war, two students of the University of Benin  and a student of Lagos State University (LASU), have been shot dead at the University of Benin.

Vanguard learnt that two other students, who received gun-shot wounds during the shoot-out, were said to be in critical condition at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), just as it was further gathered that the three students who were killed were all “shot at very close range.”

Besides, the killings were said to have started last Monday with the shooting of a 300 level science student of the University, while that of the LASU student, whose identity could not be ascertained, occurred on Thursday.

A 200 level Banking and Finance student of the University, whose name was given as Olasanoye Michael, was shot dead last Friday, it was further learnt, even as the affected students now lying critically ill at the UBTH Intensive Care Unit, were reportedly shot on Wednesday last week.

When contacted, Edo State Police Command Spokesman, Mr. Peter Ogboi, said he was yet to be briefed about the incidents.
