ABAKALIKI—Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State has commended contractors in his state, who have lived up to expectations and are working to beat the deadline for projects they are handling.
The Governor has, however, given till December this year as deadline to the contractors, whose performances have been below expectation.
Prominent on Governor Elechi’s black list is Ganza Nigeria limited, an engineering firm handling two out of the government’s 26 unity span bridges, together with the reactivation of Ezillo regional water scheme.
Governor Elechi through his Works Commissioner, Paul Okorie expressed displeasure with Ganza Engineering, yesterday, when the Commissioner visited some project sites in the hinterlands of Isihelu, Onicha and Ohaozara Local Government areas of the state, warning that if the company does not improve significantly, the government would have no option than to revoke the contracts and sanction the contractor.
The two bridges being constructed by the firm are the Ntezi-Agba-Isu Road bridge across Ebonyi River and that of Idembia Bridge across the same Ebonyi River. At the Agba bridge project site, the Works Commissioner said, “if this un-seriousness continues, we may revoke the contract. There is a contingency fund provided for in this project and there is no reason why they should not comply with the completion date for this project.”
