Court rules on Uwemedimo vs Mobil Dec 2

By Abdulwahab Abdulah
A Federal High court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, is expected to deliver judgement, December 2, in a suit instituted against Mobil Producing Nigeria, concerning alleged infringement on royalty rights of a businessman, Professor Clement Uweme-dimo.

The judgement of the court is expected to end the over eight years controversy trailing the royalty rights on the invention of anti-corrosive special paints by the plaintiff.

Professor Uwemedimo had been in a long legal battle with the oil marketer since 2000 over alleged non-remittance of royalties said to be due him from the invention of anti-corrosive special paints.

The invention, according to the motion filed by Prof. Uwemedimo, who is also an agronomist and a chemical scientist, is the first all over the world.

Uwemedimo had noted that the anti-corrosive special paints is now being used by all multinational oil, aeronautic & oil servicing companies across the globe, especially in Nigeria.

“This suffices to say that without this anti-corrosive special paints, there would be no successful off-shore and on-shore oil drilling in Nigeria and anywhere in the world,” he emphasised.

Mobil has also defended the case in court, maintaining that they were not guilty of any contractual negligence culminating in the suit.
