OWERRI—Two priests of the Diocese of Egbu, Anglican Communion, who allegedly “absconded from their duty posts in search of greener pasturesâ€, have been dismissed as Anglican priests and their licences withdrawn.
The Bishop of Egbu Anglican Diocese, Professor Emmanuel Iheagwam, made this disclosure in his presidential address to the second session of the fifth synod, holding at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Amala, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
“Since the end of the last synod, two of our priests, Messrs Cyprain Okere of Amaorie and Peter Ikegwu of Emii, have absconded in search of greener pasturesâ€, he said.
According to him, “they have therefore been dismissed as Anglican priests of the Diocese of Egbu, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, and indeed the Anglican Communion worldwideâ€.
He also told the stunned audience that “their licences had been withdrawn and letters of their dismissal sent to as many bishops as possibleâ€.
While wishing them luck in their search for worldly pleasures, Professor Iheagwam also urged the congregation not to be surprised if more priests follow the example of the two.
