The controversy surrounding the N4.75 billion Sunborn Yacht Hotel may not end soon as the Lagos State House of Assembly has again summoned the Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr Tokunbo Afikuyomi.

The House had at its plenary session on Monday passed a resolution that Afikuyomi should present necessary documents relating to the vessel, which he promised to tender the day after he was first summoned by the lawmakers.

The Commissioner who was expected to bring the documents before the commencement of the plenary session yesterday failed to do so.

However, a member of Assembly, Mr Babatunde Ogala, under Matters of Urgent Public Importance referred the House to a publication in The Nation newspaper, which he said was an embarrassment to the state.

According to the newspaper report, the yacht has failed to function as a result of the disagreement between Multipurpose Infrastructural Development Company (MIDC) and Diamond Capital which led to a court case.

Ogala explained that the Sunborn Yacht had generated negative reactions, saying: “Many things have been written on the internet concerning our government. The House has also been accused of covering up for some people and we have also been accused of compromise.

“Our party leaders have also been accused and this issue has become something that cannot be swept under the carpet. We need to take an affirmative action because the issue seems to be the one that requires a proper investigation.”
