Jigawa beefs up security over kidnap threat

DUTSE — Security measures have been adopted in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital following threat to kidnap some government officials.

Vanguard gathered that security measures were re-strengthened all over the state, especially around Government House, ministries and parastatals, as well as commissioners’ and other government officials quarters.

It was learnt that a text message was sent to some top government officials and one of the high ranking police officer in the state, alerting them of plan to kidnap some top government officials in the state.

The alleged kidnappers were said to have identified some top state government officials as their main targets when launching their operation. It was further gathered that the development had compelled the state government to release substantial amount of money to all the security agencies in the state to expand their operation and patrol.

It was also revealed that another substantial amount of money had been voted for the provision of communication gadgets and scratch cards to the security men.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abdul Jinjiri, said he received a text message  alerting the police and all security agencies on a plan by some people to kidnap some state government officials.

Jinjiri said the state police command in collaboration with security agencies and state government had beefed up security all over the state.

He said the police command had also advised officials to ensure that they go along with their guards in all their movement around the state.
