AWKA – The Anambra State Security Service, (SSS) has cleared Mr. Henry Aginam over alleged membership of a secret cult in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University. A group,Oko Poly rector tussle: SSS clears Aginam of cultism of Anambra state, had alleged in a newspapers publication, that Aginam, a one time Head of Department of Civil Engineering, UNIZIK is a member of a secret cult in the university.
But in a swift reaction, a reliable source at  SSS in Awka, Anambra state capital in an interaction with Vanguard, said that Mr. Aginam, a seasoned lecturer at the university, has no case to answer over the allegation against him.
“I am not aware of any security file against Aginam†the source said.
Meanwhile, investigations have revealed that the allegations by the group, was geared towards tarnishing the image of Aginam, who is seen as a leading candidate for the post of Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko.
The group, it was gathered, was using everything within its means, especially campaign of calumny to tarnish the good image of Aginam, who is also the Chairman of Men’s General meeting of St John’s Church Oko, in Orumba Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The investigations also revealed that the group, now using a section of the media as a propaganda tool is distorting facts as well as whipping up sentiments to launch attacks on Aginam’s candidacy, said to be the toast of the council members and the school community.
Aginam, it was gathered, is not only an engineer, but an academician of repute, that has never been involved in sexual harassment of female students whatsoever.
It was gathered that Aginam is an experienced lecturer and a member of many professional bodies.
But attempts to get the university don for his comment over the allegation failed as at press time. But a council member of the school, who spoke on ground of anonymity, said that Aginam is the best candidate for the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic.
“Aginam is a seasoned lecturer. The records are there to attest. He was never involved in any secret cult in the university or involved in sexual harassment.
