Group condemns INEC on APGA

By Laja Thomas

A group, Anambra Democratic Initiative (ADI), has condemned the handing over of INEC nomination forms for the February 6, 2010 Anambra Governorship election to the Chekwas Okorie’s faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), regardless of subsisting  court judgment, which upheld Okorie’s expulsion from the party.

In a statement by the group’s acting National Co-ordinator and Director of Publicity, Chris Nwosu and James Nweke respectively yesterday in Lagos  they said “we wish to draw the attention of Judiciary, Civil Society Organisation, genuine stakeholders and the electorate to this latest antic by the INEC,” adding that, “by this action it has become obvious that

Prof. Maurice Iwu-led INEC is bent on truncating the democratic process in Anambra State.”

Continuing the group said, “if Maurice Iwu is allowed to continue as the head of INEC that was roundly and globally condemned for its ignoble role in the massive fraud that was the 2007 general elections in the country and  a  clear indication that President Umaru Yar’Adua is not sincere about the electoral reform, having himself accepted that the 2007 polls were flawed.”
