Cold weather normal, says Metereologist

LAGOS — FOR some  time now, residents of Lagos State have been experiencing an unfavourable weather condition which is said to be having effects on peoples’ health.

In the middle of the rainy season, the weather became so dry and cold that people began to wonder what was going on. Some attributed it to climate change while others said it was the giant road construction company that has seized the rains because of the on-going road projects across the state.

Speaking with Vanguard  on the issue, the Assistant General Manager, Central Forecast Office of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Mr. Cyprian Okoloye, said “the current weather condition has got nothing to do with climate change.”

According to him, “it is a seasonal phenomenon. It is only that human memory is of short duration. This is what we experience every year either earlier or later.”

He said the experience was mainly in the South-West “ cities in the South lying below latitude 8 degrees north starting from Ilorin, down to Osogbo, Ibadan, Lagos, getting to the South-East as it is supposed to be a coastal phenomenon.”
