Amnesty: Uduaghan warns militants to surrender arms

By Festus Ahon

UGHELLI – Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has warned militants and all individuals in possession of illegal arms to submit their arms before the October 4, 2009, deadline given by the Federal Government for the submission of all illegal weapons.

Uduaghan, who spoke at Otu-Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli South local government area of the state at the weekend, said the government amnesty programme was not targeted at anybody or group, but all those in possession of illegal arms.

Noting that they were committed to the electoral reforms of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, the governor warned against the snatching of ballot boxes in the forthcoming council chairmanship election in Ughelli South local government area.

According to him, the Federal Government’s electoral reform will help to bring more sanity to elections in the country.

He said Nigerians do not need anybody to come and tell them on how elections should be conducted in the country.

Uduaghan, however, told the people of the area to vote for the PDP in all elections, adding that it was their responsibility to deliver any candidate chosen by the party in all elections.

He commended the people of the area for their loyalty and commitment for keeping the dreams of the party alive.

He said the decision to sack some commissioners in his cabinet was aimed at strengthening his government.

Uduaghan noted that every politician was a technocrat, adding that politics was an art and that one could not be a politician without being a technocrat.
