Stop distracting Orji, PPA chieftain tells PDP

By Tony Edike

Enugu – A member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Sam Nkire, yesterday, asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop distracting Governor Theodore Orji of Abia state from doing his work for the people of the state.

Chief Nkire, who made the call when he spoke with newsmen in Enugu on the reported moves by some people  to woo  Governor T.A. Orji into the PDP, said “no amount of phone calls, coercion, propaganda or even promises would make Governor Orji to defect to PDP.”

He said that Governor Orji would be the last man to leave PPA, adding that what was uppermost in his mind at the moment was how to generate the necessary funds to deliver his promises to the people of Abia state.

On the recent happenings in PPA, Chief Nkire said that membership to every political party is free and that people were free to join and leave at will, stressing that political cross-carpeting was allowed in a democratic setting.

Nkire who was the pioneer National Secretary of PPA, said the beauty of the recent defenctions and resignations from the party was that all those who left virtually did so alone without pulling the supporters of the party along.

The party, he further said, was not perturbed by the development, as it still enjoys the massive support of its followers in the South East and across the country.
