UGHELLI—THE Neo Black Movement of Africa, Delta State zone at the weekend, donated benches and toiletries worth thousands of naira to the Mariere Memorial Central Hospital, Ughelli.
The group also donated cash to baby Fegor who was the first baby delivered in the hospital on that Saturday as well as one abandoned baby that was undergoing treatment at same hospital.
Speaking during the presentation, the National President of the group, Mr. Isimeme Iriogbe, said the donation was part of their efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged in the society, adding that the donation was to mark their 2009 welfare day.
Iriogbe said they were conscious of the fact that government alone cannot cater for the needs of the people, pointing out that the welfare of those around them was paramount to the Neo Black Movement of Africa.
According to him, the group’s welfare day was an integral part of their aims and objectives, saying that they often visit hospitals and orphanage homes with a view to assisting them in their areas of needs.
While calling on organizations and public spirited individuals to contribute their quota to the well being of the less privileged in the society, he appealed to Nigerians to strive within the limits of their resources to be their brothers’ keeper.
Also speaking, the state zonal president, Mr. Believe Edhebru spoke in the same vein and promised that the group would do its best to assist the abandoned baby. Receiving the benches and the toiletries, the Chief Nursing Officer of the hospital, Mrs. Sarah Kporan thanked the group for the gesture and promised that the hospital would make judicious use of the items.
