OWwerri -The Bishop of Okigwe, Anglican Communion, Dr. Edward Osuegbu, has called on the Federal Government to enter into meaningful and constructive dialogue with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) leadership, so as to end the current industrial action by the lecturers.
Bishop Osuegbu made the appeal in his message to the Anglican Youth Fellowship Conference held at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Okwelle, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo state.
“The protracted ASUU strike has sadly led some of the students to resort to crime, prostitution and kidnapping.I passionately appeal to both sides of the divide to quickly settle the matter in the interest of the students and their parentsâ€, he pleaded.
He described the theme of the conference, “pressing forwardâ€, as apt, considering the current socio-economic and political situation in the country.
“Any youth who is involved in social vices cannot be said to be pressing forward. Only those who look unto Jesus Christ would survive in times of troubleâ€, the Bishop said.
