The banquet hall of the Lagoon restaurant Victoria island Lagos, was transformed a beehive of activities last Saturday, when women of substance gathered to make a difference atÂ this yearâ€™s Women of Global Impact Conference 2009.Â A charityÂ initiative which was inspired, initiated and supported by Bishop Peace Okonkwo, resident Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, a humble woman of God who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of women anywhere she is.
Important personalities including, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Princess Adebisi Sarah Sosan,
First lady Lagos state Mrs Abimbola Fashola, and Anambra State deputy governor Mrs Dfame Etiaba turned out for the conference which was meant to enlighten women in higher places on the need to lend a helping hand to the deprived women and children in the society.
While delivering her opening speech, Princess Sarah Sosan, deputy Governor Lagos State, said with the Women of Global Initiative, Bishop Peace is invariably helping the stateÂ to reduce poverty. She urged women to align themselves with what is good.
Women Of Global Impact is an initiative that has different points of reaching out; Rehoboth Homes, Widows Empowerment Initiative, Children Educational Support, Orphanage Support. A preview of the Initiativeâ€™s works at each of these points was shown to the audience. Speaking, Bishop Okonkwo said that she decided to bring the women together so that â€œ:they will arise, take the bull by the horn and be the difference in their worldâ€ She said she knows that one woman cannot change the nation at once, but if everyone will make a difference in their world, before long, the entire nation would have been positively impacted.
