RIVERS State government has ordered the temporary re-opening of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) jetties at the Eastern Bye-Pass, Port Harcourt and Bonny Island, closed a week ago.
The state government’s position came after a closed door meeting between the management of NLNG, led by the chairman, Chief Osoboye LongJohn and managing director, Engr. Chima Ibeneche and the state government in Port Harcourt.
The commissioner for transport, George Tolofari, said the temporary re-opening would be in place pending the outcome of the integrity test on the jetties, which has already been ordered by the state government. The statement also acknowledged the efforts made by the NLNG towards the re-opening of the jetties, but noted the importance of correcting all anomalies that led to the closure in the first place.
