Etisalat hits 1m subscriber

Etisalat Nigeria, has  announced that it has hit the one million subscriber mark. The company, said it has achieved this feat in less than one year of its operations in Nigeria’s highly competitive telecommunications market.

Commenting on the milestone, Etisalat Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Steven Evans noted that the achievement in a short period of commercial operation in the country is evidence of Nigerians’ yearning for a GSM service provider with superior service quality.

According to the CEO, “The swift and steady growth in our subscriber numbers is an evidence of the acceptance we have enjoyed from our customers and the superior service quality we offer. We are delighted to have been able to hit such a figure in under a year of commercial operations despite our position as the fifth entrant into the dynamic Nigerian telecoms market”.

Speaking further, the CEO promised that the company which was recently recognised as the best telecommunications service provider by the NCC, was poised to continue with the tradition of excellence which it known for in its different operations in Africa, Middle East and Asia. “Even in less than one year of operations, the regulatory body, the NCC, has adjudged us the best telecommunications service provider in Nigeria. This is definite recognition of the superior quality of service which we are poised to dish out to our subscribers”, Evans said.

Also, the CEO said that since its entrance into the Nigerian market at the beginning of its operations in October last year, Etisalat has continually thrilled its customers with the quality of its products and services. It launched its Easy Starter product into the market at start of commercial operations in October 2008. The product came with such unique packages as homezone, receiver pays, missed calls notification amongst several others. In May this year, the company launched its innovative easy cliq product designed specifically for the Nigerian youth. The product has features such as Unlimited SMS, Free Midnight Calls, talk’n’share, Bonus on incoming calls, Facebook update service by SMS and MMS, free 3MB of browsing and Cliq Ring Back Tune.

Since it began operations in Nigeria, the network has been aggressively expanding its network in the country and has in the short period of its commercial presence in Nigeria, boasts of presence in 20 states of the federation and is on course to cover 50% of Nigeria’s population by the end of 2009.

In appreciation of its customers, Etisalat has run a series of rewarding promotions on its network. The latest of this is the 9jillions promo which is set to be the biggest promotion with the biggest prize money in the history of promotions in Nigeria and indeed Africa. The promo has three legs beginning with an opportunity for new and old subscribers to the network to win 2 phones every hour for 90 days. Customers also stand a chance to win millions of naira at regional draws expected to take place across the country. At the grand finale of the promotions, one lucky Nigerian will walk away with a cash prize of one million dollars, the biggest single cash prize money in Nigeria and Africa.
