PPA blasts PDP over plot to effect Ohakim’s defection

THE Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for plotting to make Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State defect to the PDP describing it as a plot by a few to plunder the state’s treasury.

PPA said the inference by the PDP of  Ohakim being kidnapped by the PPA “is a plot by someone who desires to replicate in  Imo state the ganster politics elsewhere where Governors are  held hostage in the bid to perpetrate carnage on the states treasury.”

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Ben Onyechere, in a statement in Owerri, yesterday, said “the South East has woken deceit by a few people to lead the Igbos back to Egypt in their quest to serve their personal political agenda of attracting attention from the federal corridors of power.

“Ohakim, who is now the toast of the PDP was denied senatorial and governorship slots in that party. He was treated like a leper in the PDP before he took his destiny in his hands by joining PPA where his dream came through.

“During the judicial process of determining the actual winner of the governorship election this same people who are claiming to have made Ohakim were on the other side of the divide, it did not appeal to them to make peace between the candidates.

The same way Ohakim took his destiny in his hands is what the Igbos must do to achieve the long-sought liberation that can bring about a president of Igbo extraction,” he added.
