Ogbulafor summons PDP ministers

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA—THE National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor has summoned the Ministers of Agriculture and Water Resources, Dr. Sayyadi Abba Ruma and that of  Power, Dr. Rilwan Olanrewaju Babalola to appear before the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) today.

The meeting which would hold at the Party’s National Secretariat with the Minister of State, Agriculture and Water, Mrs Fidelia Njeze and her Power counterpart, Arc. Nuhu Wya also to attend, is according to the party a process to ensure that all the PDP ministers were brought before the NWC members to account for their stewardship.

The party has also vowed to achieve result through the process against the backdrop that President Umaru Yar’Adua must be supported to realize the set 7-point agenda, just as the PDP noted that elections were near and the only way the electorates can return the PDP government at the Presidential level is when the people enjoy dividends of democracy.

It was also gathered that the party had to take the action against the backdrop that it was apparently worried that some of the ministers were idle and cannot give accurate accounts of themselves as Ministers vis-à-vis service delivery to the nation.

According to a top source at the PDP, “we are summoning the ministers that are members of the party to start appearing before the NWC as from tomorrow (today).

“The aim of this summons is for them to account to the party on their level of stewardship. Election year is gradually around the corner. We cannot keep quiet. “We must know what they are doing, so that we can be able to tell the electorate what they have done, when we go on campaigns.

“We want to know how the ministers have gone so far in implementing the 7– point agenda. We want to know as from tomorrow, what plans and efforts, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Resources are doing to ensure that there are enough food to feed the teeming population of this country.

Also, the source said of the Minister of Power, “ we will ask him, what he is doing to ensure that we meet the target set by government. We shall further ask the minister, when the country will hit the 6,000 megawatt of electricity, because election year is near the corner.

“This account for the stewardship is another way of accessing the 7 – point agenda of President Umaru Yar’Adua agenda”.
