Tell us about your fashion house? My fashion house is called House of Jola. It is a combination of my name and my husband’s name. I actually started in1995, when I used to make clothes and take them to the United States. I was running a shop called Euro Afrique in Wilmington, Delaware at the time. However, I returned to Nigeria and was doing other things like buying and selling until I decided, in 2007, to launch my line. I re branded and called it House of Jola.
Nigeria celebrates its 49th year last month. We have come a long way and fashion-wise as well. There are some designers out there that are ‘representing’ us well and here is hoping they will soon have outlets in their home country.
Christopher Enuke is the designer of the Oligo Tissew brand and he reflects the multicultural mix in his designs. Being Nigerian born, English educated and raised in LA gives the designer an eclectic background which is interpreted through his work.

Calabar based Elvis Ikechukwu has emerged winner of the FADAN Talent Hunt Competition. The dark complexioned, budding designer was adjudged the best of the top 10 by a four man panel of judges made up of Funmi Ajila-Ladipo, Frank Osodi, Adesuwa Oyenekwe and Stella Awu.

When Data Okorodudu made an entrance into the fashion scene five years ago, it was like a storm. When it cleared, the revelation was JD7 Couture, a label bent on transforming the in-expensive ankara and other local fabrics into high fashion couture. Extremely creative, her designs can be described as delightful glamorous works of art.
