Enyimba thump Sand Eagles

Enyimba began their preparation for this year’s Copa Lagos on an impressive note as the two-time African champions defeated Nigeria’s Supersand Eagles 7-6 in a build up game yesterday.

The Peoples’ Elephant made life difficult for the Super Sand Eagles as they mesmerised thoroughly in the duel filled with great entertainment at the Badagry Beach.

Enyimba opened scoring early in the match through Taiwo Ibrahim, but their lead only lasted for 40 seconds before the Eagles levelled through captain, Isiaka Olawale.

The first period ended 1-1 between the both sides.

But Enyimba came out with full energy in the second period as Jamat Akinwumi netted thrice against the Super Sand Eagles.

Enyimba could have easily won the tie in the third period, but the Sand Eagles found their rhythm to level up 6-6 at the end of the third period.

Jamat Akinwumi then scored the winning goal for Enyimba.

Enyimba’s goalkeeper, Ehiabh Festus was at his best in the encounter as he denied the Supersand Eagles on several occasions.

Head coach of Enyimba Beach Soccer team, Christopher Kadiri told supersport.com afterwards that he is excited that his wards recorded a victory against the Sand Eagles.

“I’m happy for this victory, and I want to salute my boys for the great fight they gave the Supersand Eagles.

“We are ready for this competition, and I know that we will come out victorious on Sunday here in Lagos,” Kadiri told supersport.com

Enyimba will compete in this year’s Copa Lagos in the clubs category, and they will face Barcelona Beach Soccer team, Pepsi Academy and Stationery Stores.

The 2014 Copa Lagos Beach Soccer tournament will kick off this Friday and end on Sunday at the Eko Atlantic Beach.

By thumping the three-time Copa Lagos champions, Enyimba now become clear-cut favourites.
