1987 All Africa Games gold medalist and one time Nigeria’s only female player on the circuit Rolake Olagbegi Kassim is in Nigeria training Delta’s tennis team to the National Sports Festival which kicks off next week in Lagos.
Executive Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Amaju Pinnick invited Rolake from her Atlanta base in the US to join the Delta team. Rolake currently runs a tennis academy in Atlanta.
‘’Our players have improved tremendously since she started training them. In just one week the progress made has justified the investment,’’ Amaju said in Asaba.
“We have worked hard and will be going for the title in Lagos,” Amaju said while announcing that the 800 man delegation from Delta will arrive Lagos on Sunday.
He said that “eminent Deltans like Uncle Sam Amuka Pemu and Nduka Obaigbena (publishers of Vanguard and Thisday Newspapers) have been invited to receive the team at TREM Church, Gbagada at 4 pm on Sunday.”
Amaju said that a brief prayer session will follow before the team go into their camp in Lagos.
