Wednesday (August 24, 2011) night would remain green in the life of Stephen Onyeacholam, a swimming coach who has seen a lot in sports.

Steve rose from his position as a coach to the post of a Director of Sports in Delta State. But while many were still expecting more from this icon in Nigerian sports, civil service retirement age caught up with him. So, at the Garden City Games in Port Harcourt, Steve retired. On Wednesday night Delta Sports Commission headed by Amaju Melvin Pinnick decided to honour him along with the athletes who participated at the Garden City Games.

Freedom Foundation, the NGO to which the House of Refuge belongs, is a faith-based organisation founded about ten years ago by Pastor Tony Rapu, with a mandate for social reformation. House of Refuge is a drug rehabilitation and resource centre established by the Freedom Foundation in 2006. It is actually a residential facility to help people who are suffering from problems with drug dependency to overcome the problem and take special responsibility for their lives, and also get reintegrated back into the society.
