The Lagos State Government yesterday said in the last one year it handled a total of 4, 035 cases ranging from rape, child abuse, sexual assault, sexual abuse, defilement, divorce, matrimonial issues and child’s custody and maintenance, just as it vowed not to shy away from prosecuting perpetrators of domestic violence crime no matter how highly placed in the society.

A man, who reportedly raped three of his children aged five, seven and nine, has been arrested by the police in Enugu.

Rape is defined as sexual intercourse without consent. Consent must be freely and willingly given and the woman must be in a position to give her consent. Does it apply in a marital relationship? Can a husband rape his wife?
