THERE is minuscule disputation with the fact that the South West remains one of the most politically sophisticated parts of Nigeria. Many politicians have used different vehicles of political mobilization to woo the South West, but they have often only succeeded where they have a track record of public benefits. Unlike most other zones, the South West people are not easily swayed by eleventh hour democrats, hence in the 2011 general elections they voted along the patterns of their permanent interests within the dynamic body politics of Nigeria.

THE defection of Tambuwal from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Party, APC, did not come as a surprise to close watchers of the political affairs of this country.

I RECEIVED the news of the defection of Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressive Congress, APC, with stoic and philosophical calmness. Apart from being a sour taste in the mouth, it is also laden with legal and political miscalculations and labyrinths.

TO Chief Tony Anenih, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, double-speak is not a virtue. Over the years, he has maintained the principled position that on issues of party loyalty and discipline, a leader does not need to prevaricate.

IN a season of electioneering, it should be expected that all manner of ideas, calculations and doublespeak by politicians and their cheerleaders will be given free reign. More so, in a country that truth easily becomes the first casualty of power and influence, it should be equally expected that ferocious attempts to rewrite, tweak or embellish our national history to serve partisan political interests will be made.
