Is Nigeria going through a particularly unique challenge that requires unique solutions? Not at all. Every country that relies on oil for the majority of its revenues is going through plenty of pain right now. So what is everyone else doing and how does it compare with the response that Nigeria has chosen?

THIS elastic agitation for the illusion called Biafara is rapidly snowballing into a painful anathema. But must this grow unguardedly or a final stop should be put to it? We fought a civil war which was decisively concluded with an agreement of “no victor, no vanquished”. That was universally acclaimed as magnanimous at the time. Nigerians of both “divide” then easily came together and assumed the worst was over.

MOST of us, including those too young to have lived a single day through it, associate the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) of the 1980s with the darkest period in Nigeria’s economic history. The popular narrative generally considers SAP to have both caused the problems and failed to fix them, laying the blame squarely at IBB’s feet.

A few weeks ago I received a letter inviting me to be part of an association with a mandate to oil the wheels of development within and around the estate I reside in.
