I was gobsmacked when I learnt that the PDP governors together with the party’s NEC had unanimously endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the second term. Some two short years ago, several Northern governors were grandstanding as they raised several—mainly self-serving reasons—Jonathan should not re-contest.

Mr Imeh Usuah, a heroically honest taxi driver who returned N18 million that was left in his cab by a foreigner; Mr Onuh Isaac Michael, the diligent Chief Steward at the Presidential Villa, who has served nine Heads of State; Corporal Solomon Dauda, a dancing Abuja traffic warden who approaches his duties with a cheerful dedication that puts smiles on the faces of the motorists he entertains; and Mr Taiwo Akinkunmi, an elderly gent who designed our flag.

A national newspaper over the past weekend carried a bold headline: “North Vows To Stop Jonathan”, with riders: “We will ensure PDP loses” – Ango Abdullahi; Arewa Chair Commassie: “We are keeping Plan B to our chest”.

LAST weekend Sokoto hosted the cream of Nigerian political society. They were in the ‘Seat of the Caliphate’ for the turbanning of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as the new Mutawallen Sakwato. And in the Nigerian political manner of doing things, most of those who turned out were from the opposition APC party.

THE Christian in Nigeria is constantly faced with a serious dilemma: He must confess positive all the time, because in the church’s belief of the self-fulfilling prophesy, the power of the tongue is very strong. At the same time, he is enjoined to remain truthful, even at the edge of doom.
