Last week, CBN’s Monetary Policy Committee agreed to keep the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 12%, but decided to increase commercial banks’ Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) from 8 – 12%. In the aftermath of this decision, CBN accused the Money Deposit Banks of not lending to the real sector. CBN governor, Lamido Sanusi decried the reality that “rather than lend to the real economy, the banks have continued to take advantage of the high yields of government securities to direct credit away from the core private sector.”

If man establishes a university and says the first one hundred pupils in the exam would be admitted, then know that in God’s university it is the last one hundred that would be admitted. Or if in man’s Olympic Games, the gold medal goes to the person who comes first; then be sure that in God’s Olympics, the gold medal would be given to the person who comes last. The naïve belief in certain quarters that Nigeria’s developmental problems would be drastically ameliorated once democratic governance is established has turned into a red-herring because it tends to divert attention from the crisis of values among the ruling elites and cabals in the country.

One of the most distressing things in life is the state of being unemployed, and not being in a position to have a means of livelihood. We may well accuse the present generation of being lazy, laid-back, and wanting a life of luxury without their having to lift a finger to work, but at the same time, we should ask ourselves what we’re doing to empower the ones who are disadvantaged.

One reason why Nigeria’s political system is so rough is because of its winner-takes-all arrangement. The loser of an election in Nigeria is consigned to the sideline of a beggar where he gets nothing. As a result, our politicians do whatever can get them into office and seek to remain there for as long as destiny permits.

I seem to be spending most of my time lately going through airports.. Much as I love to travel, it can be a chore sometimes. It does however afford me the knowledge of seeing things first hand as a frequent traveller what obtains in other ports in comparison to ours.

It was a 7a.m flight on a Saturday… how hectic could that be. Besides at that time of the morning it will take me ten minutes to get to the airport so I thought to myself ten to six would be a good time to leave my house thus allowing for check-in etc.

I played football but not to the level that officials needed my passport for any outing. Injury did not allow me to proceed.
