LAGOS—TO ensure smooth conduct of by-elections into two wards on September 18, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, weekend trained 51 ad-hoc staff to conduct the polls.
The by-elections are to fill Ward A, Olowogbowo in Lagos Island Local Council, and Ward B, Erikrodo in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area, LCDA. Councillors for the wards, Mr. Quadus Bakare (Olowogbowo) and Mr. Sheriff Oriola Olatunji (Erikorodo) died recently.
The one-day workshop, organised jointly with Voxxon King, with resource personnel coming from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, drilled participants on how to mid-wife local council polls.
LASIEC Secretary, Mr. A. T. Jeje, said they embarked on the training because “verifiable records have shown that election personnel could make or mar elections.”
