ONITSHA—National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, has embarked on voter education ahead of the January 2011 general elections.

Umeh, who spoke on the occasion of the new yam festival of Ekwulobia in Aguata local government area of Anambra State, asked the people of the community to ensure that they turned out en masse for the November voter registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He told them that it was the only way their vote would count in the 2011 general election and appealed to them to vote APGA which, according to him, is poised to sweep the poll come January next year.
“ Ndigbo should not be divided in the 2011 election. We in APGA, our own party, are prepared to sweep the poll in the 2011 general elections and the only way we can achieve that is by fielding persons of credible character.

“We are desperate to have 80 per cent victory by having quality candidates for the election. What is important is victory.

“We want people who will go there and bring something down to the people, somebody who will use his or her constituency funds for democracy dividends for the people,” he said.

However, there was a mild drama when Umeh who wooed the member representing Aguata 11 constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Prince Ebere Ezechukwu, to join APGA, turned down the offer on the ground that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, was still the party to beat in the forthcoming general elections.

Ezechukwu, who among others were admitted into the Igwe’s council, Igwe Emmanuel Onyeneke, said he was not prepared to dump his party now that a new vibrant and virile leadership, led by Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, had been put in place for the PDP.
