The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) on Wednesday said it would comply with the new payment system for navigational charges introduced by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

AON Chairman, Mr Steve Mahonwu, told journalists in Lagos that 95 per cent of the operators had already started paying NAMA.

AON is not disintegrating. We are fighting for the growth of the airline industry. Our members are complying with the new payment system. What we did was to obey and later meet to resolve the matter,’’ he said.

He said that the association would ensure that its members continue to service debts owed agencies in the aviation sector. Mahonwu praised the Federal Government for the bailout in the aviation sector and its effort to reposition it to meet global standards.

NAMA introduced the “pay-as-you-go’’ system for terminal and en-route charges on September 2. There have been division among AON members on whether to pay or not.
