PORT HARCOURT — RIVERS State University of Science and Technology, RSUST, has graduated 400 out of its 1,000 students enrolled in the Microsoft IT Academy. Congratulating the graduands, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. B. Fakae, said they were certified by Microsoft and the university to be computer literate.

The university also flagged off a new cash card based ATM payment system for students. The VC said with the development, students are to own debit or cash cards for payment of fees. Prof. Fakae said the new development would save the university the cost of printing scratch cards, adding that it would expose the students to the latest payment medium the world over.

He also unveiled the university’s domain sponsored by Microsoft for e-mail services.

The VC said the university could boast of leading in the ICT revolution in the country with migration of over 300 of students’ results, transcripts and certificates approved by the Senate. According to him, with a click on the computer, all these would appear on the screen in seconds. He said this would afford parents and guardians opportunity to follow up on their children and wards progress in the school.

“We are also unveiling the future of learning as e-notes and instructional materials now begin to go live for the students of the university. We will also unveil the new technology we wish to adopt for examinations involving all IFS and related examinations. The university in partnership with its ICT consultant now has the country’s first school’s examination management solution called the examiner,” he said.
