DUTSE — Another torrential rain fall that lasted a week has claimed the lives of two aged persons with over 131 houses destroyed in 18 villages at Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Vanguard learnt that the two persons who died were crushed inside a collapsed building, while hundreds hectares of farmland with crops worth millions of naira got flooded.

The two aged deceased persons were 80 years old Alhaji Habiru and 65 years old Aisha Yahaya, all of Kantudu Kazaure. The other injured victims of the collapsed buildings are still receiving treatment at the general hospital, Kazaure.
Other victims of the flood are currently taking refuge at the Houses of their neighbours, relations while others are staying in primary schools buildings provided by the local government council awaiting relief assistance to ease their plight. At the time of filing this report, Vanguard gathered that nothing had been given to them either from the state or local government authority.

However, the chairman of Kazaure Local Government, Alhaji Sale Yahaya Taki, told Vanguard that he has already sent a delegation led by the vice chairman, Alhaji Mukarabu Hamza, to condole the family of the deceased and sympathise with the other victims.

Alhaji Mukarabu described the calamity as pathetic and sympathetic and assured the victims of the local and state governments quick assistance.

Like other local government councils which were affected by the flood, he said the flood was as a result of blockage of water passages coming down from the highland due to the construction of a culvert along Sabaru Road.
Some of the villages and areas affected by the flood include, Gada, Bandutse, Takwasa Fanda, Kwankwarmi, Kanti Sabaru, Ba’auzine among others.
