Nsukka (Enugu)—Some residents of Nsukka, a university town, have described the ‘Category 1’ US rating of Nigeria’s aviation industry as a great achievement by President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Mr George Ugwu, a Lecturer at the Institute of African Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Nsukka, Enugu State, yesterday that the rating was an indication of more good things to come.
He said it was an indication that the international community was satisfied with the performance of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Ugwu said: “The rating of Nigeria’s aviation in ‘category one’ is a great achievement by Jonathan.  I am optimistic that Nigeria will celebrate 24 hours uninterrupted electricity supply during Jonathan’s administration.

“I, therefore, urge Nigerians to support the President’s determination to move the country to the next level.”
Ugwu also urged aviation stakeholders in the country to ensure that the current rating was sustained by ensuring that all international rules and regulations were strictly adhered to.

Also speaking on the issue, Mrs. Joy Onah, a civil servant, said the rating would attract more investors not only to the aviation sector, but also to the country’s economy.
She said: “Nigerian airlines can now fly freely into any part of the U.S.  It is not easy for the US to place any country in category one in air safety. We should all support the current administration in restoring international confidence in Nigeria.”

Mr Chibuike Ogummah, a businessman, said the rating would make Nigeria and other African countries like Egypt, Morocco, South Africa that are in the same category to enjoy aviation benefits from the US.
“That may translate into influx of businessmen all over the world into Nigeria because they are now assured of their safety by international aviation experts,” he said.
