ABUJA — FORMER governorship aspirant in Delta State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Goodnews Agbi, said yesterday that only Ovie Omo-Agege and Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe can unseat the state Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, in the 2011 governorship election.
According to Agbi, anyone who thinks he or she can defeat the incumbent besides the mentioned names would only amount to wishful thinking, just as he urged all Nigerians to give President Goodluck Jonathan a chance and vote for him come 2011.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, yesterday when he came to the national secretariat of the PDP, the party chieftain called on the people of the state to exercise their democratic rights and vote out Uduaghan from office, stressed that voting for him, would only add “another four agonizing years to the lives of the Isoko people in particular and Deltans in generalâ€.
When asked further on why he Agbi was at the National Secretariat of the Party, he explained that he was there to see his old friends who were back to the PDP, adding that they all came together to form the party in 1998.
On whether he was still interested in contesting for the 2011 gubernatorial race in Delta state, Agbi who said he was not contesting, but said, “I want to be a king maker, and for possible candidates, there are for now, only two who are serious enough to challenge Governor Uduaghan and be able to remove him from office.
“I want to advise Isoko Youths, Isoko women and the Isoko electorate to shun those, unstable and visionless elders who have been parading themselves as leaders jumping into government and jumping out when they are no longer patronized. Isoko is without development today is due largely to the greed of these elders who allow themselves to be bought by would be Governors to the detriment of the Isoko people, hence they assume that any other Isoko man would be cheaply compromised by governorship hopefuls.
“These elders keep seeking relevance by gathering the Isoko people into meaningless, fruitless and unproductive meetings. It is time this Money leader is retired by the Isoko people since their leadership has not brought anything good or positive development to the Isoko people.â€
