In view of the incessant cases of building collapse in the country, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Nduese Essien, has charged professionals in the built sector to embark on self-regulation by reprimanding their erring members.
Essien who stated this recently following the collapse of a building in Abuja which led to the loss of many lives, decried a situation whereby greedy and careless developers continue to put the lives of people at risk through their unprofessional conduct.
He said that the housing ministry has contacted the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) for legal advice on how to use the National Building Code to prosecute erring developers, adding that his ministry is in wide consultation with key professional groups in the sector to enlist them in a nation_wide campaign against haphazard housing construction practices.
