PORT HARCOURT — CHURCHES in Nigeria have been urged to key into the anti-graft war in the country by rebuking those with ill gotten wealth in their midst.

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State gave the charge in Khana Local Government Area, at a thanksgiving service to mark the end of the 3rd session of the second synod of the Diocese of Ogoni Anglican Communion.

Amaechi advised churches to chastise people with such wealth when they make effort to flaunt them in churches, adding that it was wrong for people like that to be celebrated in the house of God.

“The call became necessary because for any public funds stolen in the society, people suffer for it because such funds would have been used to provide basic amenities to ameliorate the sufferings of the masses.”

On programmes of his government for Ogoni area, he said among others, the government would locate a major agricultural project in the area to improve on the economy of the people. He expressed worry at  the poverty level of people of the area.

The Governor  called on the people to ensure they register in the coming voters registration exercise because vote would begin to count in next elections in the country.

“The day you begin to ask your leaders what they are doing with your votes, things would begin to change in Ogoniland.”

Governor Amaechi reassured the people that all on-going projects in Bori would be completed and urged the people to guard against vandalism and kidnapping of personnel working in primary healthcare centres and other public utilities in the area.
