FORMER Governor Lamidi Adesina of Oyo State, has advised voters in the state to take note of the current insecurity and perceived bad governance in the state and use it to vote against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2011 polls.
He said he sympathized with striking public workers of state and others who had been direct victims of alleged “visionless and corrupt administration. Apparently, socio-economic and political situation in Oyo State is pathetic now on account of bad governance in the hands of the PDP and its members. But there is a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel.
The good old days of the administrations of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Bola Ige would soon be replicated by a government of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, which is expected to be inaugurated next May.â€
He assured them that in another six months, they “shall be singing victory songs over threat of assassination, wasteful spending of public funds, unhealthy propaganda, political violence, harassment of citizens, deliberate infiltration of labour unions, godfatherism, official corruption and bad governance. Every good citizen and resident of the state should remain resolute in our collective struggle to put paid to the activities of anti-democratic forces that have seized the state by the jugular since 2003.â€
The PDP, he alleged, had done enough harm to the state and her people and the time to say “no to them is now if the pacesetter state must re-occupy her rightful place among her contemporaries globally. The best and simplest way to do this is to ensure that all candidates of ACN are voted to man various elective posts beginning from 2011.â€.
The state leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, who spoke in a Ramadan message said that the 2011 general elections would bring about the desired political liberation for the masses, particularly the people of the state, who he said had been denied the rights to enjoy full benefits of democracy in the last few years.
Speaking through Mr. Wasiu Olatubosun, he congratulated Muslims as well as their counterparts in other religions on the peaceful commencement of this year fast and urged them to live in peace with one another and be united in prayer for God Almighty to intervene in Nigeria’s political terrain as the nation prepares for 2011 general polls.
“The Holy Month of Ramadan comes but once in a year but when it comes, the whole world feels its spiritual essence and on this note I extend my congratulations to Muslims in Oyo State , South-west and Nigeria as a whole as well as adherents of other religion on the commencement of this year Ramadan fast.
It is usually a month of worship, devotion and sober reflections as Nigerians, thus, need to be more firm in seeking Allah’s forgiveness of our past individual and collective sins as a people and therefore qualify ourselves for His intervention in our national life particularly as the nation prepares for another round of decisive general elections next yearâ€, he stated.
