ASABA — ALL is now set for this year’s annual lecture organised  by the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, in which the retired Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Alfa Belgore, will  deliver a lecture on electoral reforms, tomorrow.

Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Tonye Timi, a scholar of repute presently eyeing the Federal House of Representatives seat, explained the rationale behind the choice of this year’s lecture while fielding questions with our reporter in Asaba, yesterday.

According to him, “it is an election year and every Nigerian is desirous of free and fair elections. There is, however, a very healthy debate in Nigeria on propriety or otherwise of re-working our electoral laws to achieve the desired output of free and fair elections.

“There are, however, schools of thought,  who hold the views that Nigeria, indeed, has perfect electoral laws and what we need is ‘reforming’ or put differently, a re-orientation of the people.”

“Therefore, the essence of this year’s lecture is to permanently resolve the seeming contradictions and conflict on electoral reforms or electorate reform,” he said.

You will agree with me that no less person that Hon. Justice Alfa Belgore, a retired Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will be able to do justice to this truly agenda setting topic”, said Timi.
