The 2nd Setraco Tennis Clinics/Tournaments, billed to serve off at the National Tennis Centre, Package B, Abuja National Stadium on Monday, is vital to the future of Nigerian tennis, so thinks Tournament facilitator and national tennis coach, Rotimi Akinloye.
According to Akinloye, the tournament has become imperative given the dearth of quality young players in the country and the entire West African sub-region in general.
His words; “I just returned from Europe where I handled ITF/African Junior team for five weeks. You can’t believe there was no player from West Africa in that team. We have been challenged to boost grassroots tennis in this part of the continentâ€.
Discoveries from this tournament will be put through all year training under Akinloye. He continued; “We are going a step further this year. It is not enough to discover talents. We will train them and monitor their progress all year.
Setraco Nigeria Limited is really committed to the growth of Nigerian tennisâ€. The tournament billed to run from August 16 to 28 will be in the U-16, U-14, U-12 and U-10 categories with Abuja Country Club hosting the second leg.
