ERSTWHILE Eagles captain, Jay Jay Austin Okocha is worried at the pace at which Nigerian football is declining. Okocha, one of the candidates in the NFA election scheduled for August 21 said that all hands must be on deck to stop Nigerian football from hitting all time low.

“We’ve to stop the slide. It’s a shame to know that Nigerian footballers are playing in low quality leagues in Vietnam, Cyprus, India etc.

Its, indeed, a shame to see Nigerians plying their trade in such leagues. It’s a ridiculous pointer to the level our football has hit”, Okocha who played in Germany, and the Premier League where he had commanding performances said.

“We all have to come together to salvage it from further decline. That is why one is trying to enter into the board of the FA. You cannot make any contribution from outside. I have something to offer just like my other colleagues who are contesting for the elections.

We have a lot of talents but these talents must be harnessed. Our league has to be good to attract scouts from such flourishing leagues like the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and others. We have to halt the slide”, Jay Jay said.
