NOGIG 2018: Exxon Mobil shocks Chevron in football final

Teslim-Balogun-Stadium

The 17th edition of the Nigeria Oil & Gas Games ended on a good note on Saturday with Exxon Mobil beating Chevron 1-0 to win the football gold.

Played at the mainbowl of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Team Exxon Mobil left no one in doubt about their readiness to cart away the giant trophy as they tormented the goal area of their opponents from the blast of the whistle. It took the team only 8 minutes to score the only goal of the match when their captain, Imo Edohor collected a loose ball and dribbled past the defenders of Chevron to record the only goal of the match. All efforts by Chevron to cancel the goal proved abortive as the first half ended 1-0.

On resumption for the second half, Chevron handled by ex- international, Yisa Sofoluwe put everything in their arsenal into the game and though they dominated the second stanza but their efforts were thwarted by the agile goalkeeper of their opponents Mfon Akpan who made some good saves to the delight of the fans.

Even the introduction of Godstime Emiko, Johnson Uchechukwu and Martin Isojeh by Chevron in the second half could not help them cancel the goal.

The game continued as a ding dong affair with Chevron players making some incursions into their opponents goal area but were unlucky not to find the back of the net until the final whistle.

In the third place match, Shell won the bronze medal as they defeated PTI 4-2 on penalties after their game ended 3-3 at regulation time.

Meanwhile, Shell emerged the overall winner of the games with 11gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze. NNPC came second with 9 gold,12 silver and 14 bronze while Chevron came third with 8 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.

NLNG took the fourth position with 5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze with Exxon Mobil coming fifth with 3 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze.
