Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje
Yakasai, who was elevated to his current position on February 6, explained that in the hierarchy of government, adviser remained the most senior, saying “it is equivalent to a commissioner, while the Director General is equivalent to a permanent secretary.”
Governor Umar Ganduje had, on February 6, reshuffled his media team, elevating Yakasai, the former Director General, Media, replacing him with his former Chief Press Secretary, Yassar.
Since the shuffle, a cold war had developed between Yassar and his former boss, Yakasai, over the control of official facility of the Director General.
Yakasai told Vanguard: “Any office can be assigned to any official; it is at the discretion of the government and, as I said, it was assigned to me; I didn’t forcibly take it.
“It is not my father’s property. If, today, I am directed to vacate it, before you say ‘Vanguard’ I will be out of there.
“I was elevated to the position of Special Adviser to the Governor on New Media, and I remain an integral part of the governor’s media team.
“In the course of my duties since my appointment about two years ago, I have maintained a cordial relationship with all my team and still do, and we will continue to work together to create awareness around the activities of the governor.”
