Siasia who led Nigeria to a silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics is fans’ favourite for the job. Also, sources hinted that he is enjoying the backing of President Goodluck Jonathan.

As associate of the Heartland of Owerri coach, disclosed to SuperSport.com that Siasia is quietly working with hope that he will get the job even as the Nigeria Football Association seem to have put the appointment of the new Eagles’ coach on hold till a new board is sworn in after the August 21 elections.

“He has started looking at some players already behind the scenes. He has a shortlist of those he will build the team with.

“There is a qualifier coming up next month and he does not want a situation where they will call him at the last minute and he will start doing all that within one week,” said Siasia’s associate.

He added that the Bayelsa-born coach is also prepared for the possibility that he may not get the job.
“What he is doing now is just to be sure that he does not get caught unawares. If he doesn’t get the job, he will just continue with what he is doing.”
