Amodu blasts NFF over Siasia

Amodu Shuaibu has exposed a seeming bad blood between him and Samson Siasia. He is frowning at the Nigeria Football Federation for considering  Siasia for the Eagles job without what he called “due process”.

Due process in his context would be to throw  the job open for a  selection interview during which the best candidate would be picked.

“We have coaches like Oliseh, Stephen Keshi and others who are interested in the job. It should be thrown open so that all will be assessed before a final selection. They have not followed due process in considering Samson Siasia for the job. I don’t think it is proper and fair. Even when they hired Lars Lagerback, they made it open and interviewed other coaches before settling for the Swede. But now they are saying that Siasia has it without due process,” Amodu said on radio yesterday.

The former Eagles coach could not recall  that when he was offered the job, it was made open and Siasia beat him and others in the oral and written interview.

The board of Sani Lulu is still being vilified for opting for him rather than Siasia who placed first. Again, the Nigerian system of employing coaches has always been criticised by those who follow the modern game.

It was shocking, therefore, that PTF, full of the likes of Segun Odegbami, John Fashanu, Patrick Ekeji and  Jajay Okocha also joined in assessing and selecting a coach based on oral interview and not by analysing the track record of short-listed coaches and going for the most suitable.

That is the  proper way to hire coaches and not the mundane Nigerian way that Amodu was advocating.
