Nigeria Football Association electoral committee has declared its readiness to deliver a free and fair poll. This is coming at the heel of criticisms of the committee’s handling of critical matters in the run up to the elections.

Chairman of the committee, Abdulhakeem Mustapha said in Abuja that the much expected election will hold and it will be conducted in the most civilised manner.

“Our committee owes Nigerian football this onerous duty of putting things in proper shape. This is in view of  the downturn in the country’s football, especially with the Super Eagles’ performance at the World Cup.

“We will follow the guidelines and adhere strictly to the rule of transparency in the conduct of the elections. There will be a level playing ground for all aspirants.,” Mustapha said in Abuja.

Mustapha expressed the committee’s delight at the candidacy of those he described as credible Nigerians that had shown interest in running the game into the future.

“The outpouring of these respected Nigerians to pick forms for the election was impressive and we felt it was in order to reciprocate this by organising the debate so that Nigerians will know that for the first time, they can have confidence in NFA,” said Mustapha.

About 58 aspirants have submitted forms to contest for President, vice president, Secretary General and members of the NFA board in the impending elections.

He said that his committee will unfold its plan for the elections in the world press conference that will be addressed in Abuja on Thursday.
