ABAKALIKI — Following the furore generated by the South East governors’ declaration that no person from the geopolitical zone should run for the presidential election or even stand as running mate to any presidential candidate in 2011, an all Igbo Political Summit has been planned to aggregate Igbo views and interests on the issue of zoning and presidency preparatory to the 2011 elections.

High scale consultations for the summit which started last Friday continues especially in an effort to settle the contentious issue of who should chair the summit tentatively fixed for August 16, 2010.

Vanguard learnt that apart from selecting the chairman for the summit, the issue of venue of the meeting was also a subject of high wire politicking though some notable leaders from Imo State were said to have suggested Owerri as venue for the reason of aerial access on account of the closure of Enugu Airport, most people argued that it should be held in Enugu, which serves as the administrative capital of the geopolitical zone.

The source  said that part of the challenge of choosing the chairman of the summit was to ensure that the chairman was not associated with any of the groups promoting the presidential candidacy of some aspirants adding that Ndigbo want to make sure that their voice was heard and their interest well taken care of in the current wave of political bargaining going on in the country.
