Port-au-Prince – Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has assured men of the Nigerian Police Force of the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan to the revamping and the repositioning of the force in the light of the current realities.

Obi spoke weekend in Haiti, when he led some Nigerian delegation, comprising the Red Cross, the private sector and the entertainment industry to access the level of damage by the recent earthquake to the country. The team visited the Nigerian
Police contingent serving in the country as part of the United Nations stabilization force.

Overwhelmed by the gesture, the contingent through their commander, thanked the Governor for visiting them. They expressed happiness that the Governor was at home with them and eating their camp food with them.

Obi who said that it would be insensitivity on him to visit Haiti without visiting the Nigerian Police on special assignment in the country, commended the force for being good Ambassadors of Nigeria. He appealed to them to continue to be of good conduct.

Obi who expressed shock at the damage done by the quake to Haiti, said that what was shown on television did not quite convey the entire picture.  “Watching the damage on television, one would think that the quake affected only the presidential palace and a few other buildings, but a visit to the country actually showed that the damage was very extensive.”

Accompanied by the Nigerian Ambassador to Jamaica, who is also overseeing Haiti,  Mr. Peter Oyedele, Obi noted that Haiti as one of the poorest countries in the world was already down, regretted that such a calamity would befell the country. He called on all men and organisations of goodwill to help in the rebuilding of the battered city.
